Frequently Asked Questions about the OnlineHobbyist Community Photo Gallery

These are questions most frequently asked by our photo gallery users. If you have questions not addressed here, there is a link at the end of the page to contact the Site Administrator. We also want to hear your feedback on improvements to this FAQ! Thanks to all our users for their help and suggestions.

Q: Do I have to register to view or upload photos?

You do not need to register to view any of the photo galleries at OnlineHobbyist.com. You do have to register if you want to upload photos.

Q: How do I register?

We use a universal login system. This means you have one username and password for all current and future password protected features of this website and all other OnlineHobbyist.com websites. If you do not already have a username and password on the site, you can create them here:

http://www.onlinehobbyist.com/myaccount/register.php

Q: How do I upload a photo to the photo gallery?

To upload a photo, follow these instructions:

  • Go to the Photo Galleries

  • Scroll down until you see where it says Home, Profile, Upload Photos, and Login.

  • You will need to click "Login" and enter your user name and password.

  • Once logged in, click "Upload Photos".

  • Choose a category. We have a wide variety of categories for members to chose from. You can be very specific about where you put your photos, or you can put them in the Member Gallery. The Topic Galleries are reserved for just photos of that topic that you are uploading. For example, a photo of a Corvette could go in the Corvette Photo Gallery. A photo of a Mustang would go in the Mustang Photo Gallery. A photo of you would go in the Member Gallery, etc.

  • You will need to know where on your computer are your photos. Browse to your photos on your computer, and select the photo you wish to upload. Click ok.

  • You may enter a title, keywords, and description. That is your option. It makes it easier for other users to find your photos if you use good keywords and descriptions.

  • Then click Upload/Submit.

  • Try to keep your photos of a smaller size. Many times a scanner or digital camera will make the photos huge. You may need to use a photo program to reduce the size. Most computers come with a simple photo editing program already installed, or you can read reviews of some, including some free ones, from zdnet.com here: Photo Editing Software Reviews

Q: What file types of photos can I upload to the photo gallery?

Photos need to end in one of two file types: .jpg or .gif.

Q: How do I use the photos once they're uploaded?

In our forums and classifieds, photos in your gallery will appear in a drop down menu and can be added to your posts or ads by selecting the one you want.

You can also simply copy the Image URL, which is in the grey box immediately under the photo in our gallery, and use it on any website, forum system, etc. that allows linking to photos directly or with HTML.

Q: Can I edit a photo once it is uploaded?

Yes and no. You cannot change the photo in any way. However, you can change the title, keywords, and description. Bring your photo you wish to edit up and click on the “Edit Photo” button.

Q: How can I tell when my Photo Gallery is getting full?

You can check this by clicking on “Upload Photos." Below the “Photo to upload” area shows how much space you have left. You have a total of 100 MB free space.

Q: My Photo Gallery is getting full, can I delete photos?

Yes. Bring up your photo you wish to delete and click on the “Edit Photo” button. At the bottom of this page is a box to click to Delete Photo. Just remember, once you click to delete the photo, it is gone.

Q: Someone took one of my photos and is using it in their photo gallery. Do you have any rules about copyright?

Yes. Posting copyrighted documents or photographs here without the owner’s permission is a violation of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA). If you have an item that was used here without your permission, contact our Interim Designation of Agent to Receive Notification of Claimed Infringement.

Q: I saw a photo that was offensive to me, what can I do?

Photos that violate our TOS, or photos placed in the wrong gallery can be reported to the Photo Gallery Site Coordinator by clicking on the “Report Abuse” Button below the photo. Please give an explanation for the reason you are reporting the photo and your email address. Photos will only be removed if they violate OnlineHobbyist.com’s TOS or they may be moved if they are in the incorrect category. An email address is important in case more information is needed from the person reporting the abuse.
